1 Cor 10:9 - Jesus or Jehovah?
Some try to link 1 Cor 10:9 with Jesus, instead of his God and Father, Jehovah!
What JW opposers, in their hurry to identify Jesus with 1 Cor 10:9 do, is to fall into a simple trap, that they have made for themselves and in their ignorance omit pertinent details, as they often do!
"Neither let us tempt Christ, as some of them also tempted, and
were destroyed of serpents." KJV
"Nor let us try the Lord, as some of them did, and were destroyed
by the serpents."
The above is a reference to Num 21:6
"Then the LORD sent venomous snakes among them; they bit the people
and many Israelites died." NIV
"And Jehovah sent fiery serpents among the people, and they bit the
people; and much people of Israel died." ASV

For one thing, Modalists and Trinitarians fall into the same trap as Mormons do, having Christians exist before, there was ever a Christianity and what JW opposers do in an effort to embarrass them, is to fall into the same trap and that is, they have a Jesus, long before there ever was a Jesus, the Christ and the name “Jesus” was the heavenly God’s son’s earthly given name, the son of God did not have this name prior to his earthly sojourn!
The technical matters that are usually left out, omitted by JW opposers is that, not all Greek manuscripts at 1 Cor 10:9 read the same!
Manuscripts ‘x B C’ have “the Lord”, whilst, ‘P46 and D’ have “the Christ” and ‘A’ has “God” these matters are what is not brought to the attention of others and thus, JW opposers show a one sided coin and thus, do not present a balanced view, as their sole aim is to show, that Jesus is “God”!
Another matter is to be seen in many bibles translations, where, not all have “the Christ”, but, “the Lord”!
Jesus and his apostles foretold that an apostasy would develop and such did, during the life of the apostles, the first Christians were Jewish Christians, who had a Jewish mentality to not add or remove from the Hebrew OT and its Greek equivalent the LXX and such LXXs contained God’s name right up until the 130s CE, after the Jewish Christians, the congregations became predominantly Gentile and thus, Gentile Christians vastly outnumbered their Jewish Christian brethren and it was these Gentile (later) Christians who surrogated YHWH for either “Kurios” or “Theos”, as many could not understand Hebrew, these were the ones who used the technical “Nomina Sacra”, a way to abbreviate Sacred Names, they would take the first and last letters and produce “KS” or “TS” (Kurios and Theos) both with horizontal lines above the letters! These Gentile Christians could not tell the difference between the letters of the Tetragrammaton and the Greek letters PIPI and in time, God’s name was all but lost, even Jerome calls many of his fellow gentile Christians ignorant!
The apostasy from true primitive biblical Christianity, was but, a shadow of it, by the 4th century CE, there was no longer “one faith, one Lord”, because, by the end of the 4th century, nearly 50 versions of Christianity existed and were available to choose from; the Modalists got their start in the 3rd century, the proto-Trinitarians under the influence of pagan Greek philosophical concepts began to emerge too and the form or brand of Christianity to win the day, was the Roman type, called “Catholicism”, the Catholic Party (Universalists) as they ended up with the most pagan converts and used the power of the Roman Police State to beat down their opponents and as is well known, the winner re-writes history in its favour, burning and banning any on- takers!
These few facts, JW opposers do not wish others to know about, thus, they can mislead others, as they are misled themselves!
